Hey folks,
So I've been thinking about making some interesting offers commission-wise. Of course, I could just continue to do commissions as I do them now and I'm enjoying that, but once I finish my current list I would like to do something special for a while, or offer a special as an extra. I could use your help to perfect some basic ideas I've got. If you think they're rubbish don't hesitate to tell me either, heh. Mostly though I'd just like to hear what you think of them and if you think something would make them better or more interesting, please share.
• 25 full-color busts - $75-$100 each.
Pro: Fun portrait and color exercise. Not too big so it doesn't get boring.
Con: Possibly too expensive, but I can't really sink below $75.
• 50 full-body sketches - $25 each.
Pro: Quick, good gesture exercise, doesn't get boring if enough variety in character is offered.
Con: Need to do many for it to be really profitable, could get too much.
• Your Soundtrack Design - $50-$75
Explanation: You send me a song you like, along with three key words that may be anything (animals, colors, personality traits) and I give you a full color speedpainting of whatever comes to my mind when I combine those four things.
Pro: Lots of fun, quite relaxing for me, surprise element for the commissioner.
Con: Surprise may also be negative, not certain of the enthusiasm and possibly too expensive.
• Your Mythological Creature - $50-$75
Explanation: You describe your personality to me in five key words and give me your favorite color. I will then pick whichever (existing) mythological animal suits you best and implement your color into the design. Final images will be sketchy with flat colors or colors with hints of shadow.
Pro: Again lots of fun, surprise element for the commissioner, transparent images can be used.
Con: Same as soundtrack design.
I had more ideas, but most of them are unfinished. I would be most interested to hear any and all ideas you have, they could be based on mine or something entirely different that you feel should really be done :>. Let me know, I'm looking forward to reading your comments!

The 25 torsos and the 50 full-bodies would be wonderful for developing artists who are having trouble drawing their characters at different angles and poses.
Busts: I would say the prices is fair (assuming of course this means a completed painting and not a sketch), but you have one problem: lots of people draw busts, and busts are typically static. If I were a commissioner looking for something in that price range, I'd prefer a more dynamic image. However, what you have to offer is of exceptional quality, so I'm pretty sure you'd still get takers.
Sketches: These sound like a lot of fun and the price is a great deal, especially if you had something like this ([link]) in mind. However, just be careful of offering 50 slots; those may get tedious after a while, and you don't want to be burned unduly. You might take them in batches of 10 or 15 rather than 50. I would also caution it if they take you more than like, 2 or 3 hours (I have no idea how fast you go, but any longer than that and I think you'd be selling yourself short). If I was hunting for cheap but high quality commissions, I would DEFINITELY take you up on that offer. Also, if you keep it a steady thing, it will be a great way for some fast cash :3
Soundtrack Design: This sounds like a great exercise for your creativity, but I'm not sure how many people would be willing to pay that amount of money for something so open-ended. I also think 50 to 75 bucks is a little high for a speedpaint. I would cap it at 50 dollars rather than 75, but then again, that isn't very much money for the effort you put out :/ I'd use this type of commission for personal experimentation, creativity practice, and possible portfolio material in mind rather than profit.
Mythological Creature: Although I feel that more people would be interested in this idea than the soundtrack commissions, I still feel like the prices are kind of high. Perhaps if you were inventing a new and unique creature rather than assigning a color scheme to a pre-existing one they would fare a bit better. The idea sounds a bit like making custom adoptable, and adoptable rarely go for such high prices. I think with some slight modification of the price range or the basic concept, you'd be in a great spot with these
Anyway, that's my two cents on your ideas :3 Regardless of what you choose to do, I think you'll find customers because your work is so high quality. Maybe the best way to find out what works is to simply open a few sample commissions and see what sells. I really like how you're being creative with commissions and hopefully it draws in more customers.
As for other ideas... One commission type that is growing in popularity is a sketch page commission. Instead of getting one sketch, the buyer gets a whole page of a couple poses, studies, and etc. (here's an example: [link])Personally I'd love that. I've also been thinking of something like a commission lottery, where lots of people buy a cheap commissions, but one random person (draw the name from a hat or something) will get upgraded for free. That will give people an extra incentive for buying the cheaper ones and might help you generate cash faster, if you need it. A final idea would be to make art specifically for or on an object; i.e, you might take a sketchbook with a blank cover and decorate it, or buy some of those photo coffee mugs and put art in them instead. You'd have to deal with shipping, but people might like the idea of getting a personalized object and you could try your hand at crafty projects, if that appeals to you
I could offer 10 commission slots where people can choose either of these types for a lower than usual price so that I can check the enthusiasm and figure out how it works for me, plus create examples for other possible clients. How's that sound? :>
